about the record

Sunder is the first full-length collaboration between Brooklyn-based Thomas Meluch, known as Benoît Pioulard, and Denver-based Jason Corder, known as offthesky. After years of independent work amid a like-minded community of ambient experimentalists, the two were brought together by the label, for whom Corder has previously collaborated with Craig Tattersall, known as The Humble Bee.

Across Sunder’s eight chapters, we hear careful constructions of tape-tinged guitar, voice, and field recordings, alongside strings, flute, bells, and myriad other elements that arise and recede organically. Best experienced as a whole, the album’s subtle flow is imbued with an arc that balances melancholy with windswept drift.
