why we love this
Static and space coexist in an indeterminate state. Harmonics fold in on themselves, while simultaneously expanding into a realm of memory. A mercurial tangle of recollections, “Debtor of Presence” provides a glimpse into a sense of time that is anything but linear.
about the cassette
“Debtor of Presence” is the latest album by two of the artists behind Air Krew, Piper Spray and Lena Tsibizova—a deeply personal meditation on time, place, and memory. Conceived over three years, the album is both nostalgic and unsettling, hopeful yet haunted. Listened to in context, it serves as a ritual purification of our morally bankrupt political present.
Amorphous and untameable, this is music that refuses to conform to expectations. Sounds unfold in one direction and unexpectedly shift into reverse. Digitally rendered instruments move around in absorbing and uncanny ways. Entire tracks swell and dissipate mysteriously, hinting at a lingering but unseen presence. Over 50 minutes, Piper and Lena pull us into their unique auditory world, capturing a sense of profound longing for a time and place that may have never existed.
