about the cassette
For Nite Hiveโs third release, Patricia Wolf expresses her love of birds with the aptly titled 'The Secret Lives of Birds.' Her avian fascination began alongside her field recording practice when she began to wonder which birds were singing and calling in her recordings. Through her research to identify these sounds, she became a bird watcher, a ravenous seeker of bird facts, and a proponent for their protection and conservation. With the subject of birds becoming an all-encompassing passion, her music naturally took a turn to reflect on the birds sheโs met both at home and on tour.
Patricia dives deep into her personal library of field recordings and birding experiences, writing songs that show the variety of emotions and wonders that birds bring. Using electronics and field recordings, she celebrates the avian world with sentimental and melodic musings on their behavior, beauty, and the challenges that they face in the Anthropocene. Even if youโre not yet acquainted with the secret lives of birds, these 12 tracks offer a warm, welcoming point of entry.
