why we love this

Oaky and amber-tinted timbres offer a sturdy foundation, while soothing melodies blanket the listener in warmth, mirroring the gentle ease of sipping a spiced tea indoors on a rainy day.

about the record

A Colourful Storm begins 2024 with a luxurious suite of daydreaming introspection from Unchained, the longstanding solo project of Nathaniel Davis, capturing a longing for endless, hazy days.

Recorded at home between 2020 and 2023, Gabbeh is the latest expression of Davisโ€™s guitar-based instrumental musings, reflecting an almost two-decade evolution from his self-released noise tapes and CD-Rs into romantic, bossa nova-influenced melodies. The tracks were written sporadically, with minimal instrumentation and intervention.

Electric guitar, bass improvisations, and rhythms from an old drum machine are layered and given new life, with the space between them softly breathing with the minutiae of everyday life: the buzz of cicadas, the passing of cars, the whistling of passersby.
