why we love this

Like walking through an empty arcade with machines blinking on and off, there’s a flickering vitality that continues to breathe within these world-building machines. Between the beeps and stretches of sound, and the field recordings of gentle natural settings, there’s a childlike sense of wonder—a quiet curiosity and sweet innocence that permeates the mind.

about the record

andrew cs is a multimedia artist and creative programmer from the American Midwest. Exploring recursive time loops through their own digital memories, Andrew's sound blends captured spaces with bending synthesized loops improvised on custom software.

Following a half-chance encounter with a field recorder as a teen, Andrew began cataloging moments of temporary calm, archiving disk drives filled with present textures in conversation with a future self.

Their debut album, “caught in pointers,” strings together a non-linear coming-of-age story from six years of altered field recordings. By collaging data found between the rural landscapes of their youth and the oscillations of Chicago as an adult, Andrew imagines their own past as a four-dimensional space to navigate freely with digital media.
