why we love this
An exhilarating trek through a shadowy, humid landscape that swelters with mystery and a vibrant aliveness.
about the record
On Teratai Åkande, Copenhagen-based producer and electronic musician Anton Friisgaard ventures into new territory, reinterpreting gamelan music from his artistic perspective in close collaboration with Balinese musicians from Ubud’s renowned gamelan scene.
After attending a 2018 Roskilde Festival concert featuring the Gamelan Salukat ensemble, Friisgaard was inspired to reach out to Dewa Alit from the group. Seeking to blend these musical traditions, he traveled to Ubud, Bali, to record, compose, and improvise with artists from the esteemed Gamelan Salukat. The result is Teratai Åkande, featuring contributions from Pande Made Gangga Sentana, I Nyoman Suwida, Dewa Badukz, Suryana Putra, and Pande Made Gangga. The album is an interaction and synthesis of acoustic and electronic expressions, exploring an imagined territory between two otherwise separate cultural worlds.
