why we love this
A chapel on a spaceship plays solemn hymns uncannily similar to our own. From a wide vocabulary of sonic relics associated with various beliefs, Baldruin constructs a reverent path to the sublime.
about the record
Johannes Schebler's upbringing in a small Bavarian village rectory, situated just meters away from the church, immersed him in a world of organ music, church bells, and spiritual chanting. These early experiences laid the foundation for his enduring fascination with transcendental and enigmatic atmospheres.
Schebler started making music as Baldruin back in 2009, initially exploring DIY experimentations that found their first release on tape. While acoustic instruments played a prominent role in his early compositions, the addition of synthesizers and other electronic sources expanded the sonic palette, allowing primitive and futuristic realms to seamlessly intertwine.
Despite the ever-shifting moods that evoke a sense of venturing into the unknown, all the recordings for Relikte aus der Zukunft were created primarily using a single midi-keyboard in Schebler's home studio in Wiesbaden, Germany. The tracks themselves are teeming with vividness and wonder, meticulously evoking various settings and conjuring immersive experiences. They are playful and bright, as well as suspenseful and foreboding, occasionally surging into moments of ritual and hallucination.
