why we love this

Rather than layering languid sounds that resemble one another, JEMAPUR shows a prolific ability in tearing apart sonic fibers and allowing their material differences to be masterfully woven back together, with friction in texture perhaps being the connecting thread across the release.

about the record

For Omen Wapta’s inaugural release, Japanese musician/sound designer/coder/producer JEMAPUR explores the far reaches of abstract experimental techno on his album Mode Cleaner.

Pulling from music that the Nagano-based artist made between 2016 and 2020, the album demonstrates JEMAPUR’s distinctive use of glitch, microsampling, live coding, and granular synthesis techniques. As the producer explains, Mode Cleaner was made at a time when his subconscious was being drawn towards subjects like physics, geometry, murals, ancient civilisations, the logic of nature, and the observation of the universe.
