about the record

Circular patterns morphing through time, loops, and rituals form the fabric of Proserpine. Recorded over the course of a year, from summer to winter between 2021 and 2022, Proserpine confidently revels in space, focusing on isolated sounds that give way to swirling waves of vocal and electronic buzz.

Overarching themes emerge: continual change and elusiveness. Insubstantiality materializes into concrete reality through recognizable field recordings, like the purring of a pet cat or the hum of a live cable. The loops and patterns often remain just out of sight.

Change lies at the heart of the album. The Roman goddess Proserpine exists in a perpetual state of transition: between summer and winter, the land of the living and the underworld, constantly emerging into new states of being. It’s a fitting metaphor for Leeds-based musician Teresa Winter’s work.
