about the record

Bill Seaman, Tim Diagram, and Stephen Spera first discussed making music together while working on Architectures of Light, an album Tim released on his Handstitched* imprint. Over the course of a few months, this idea evolved into The World Was Turning Before, an album that explores a balance between sound-making and sound-collecting processes, both individually and collaboratively.

A network of sonic images began to form into musical sketches—organic live pieces and soundscapes slowly shaped into delicately flowing collages. There is a beautiful subtlety in the layering, where images dissolve into one another, forming textures and shifting visions, alongside minimal tonal gestures. This collaged tapestry draws from slightly different sources in each piece, giving the album a rich diversity of sound perspectives while still forming a strong, cohesive whole.
