why we love this
Hushed, delicately layered vocals sweep across a desert sky, the soft rays of a late afternoon sun glowing down on a barren landscape. The fragility of voice paired with the vast horizon of empty space is strikingly emotional, an experience of discovering more through hearing less.
about the cassette
Written and recorded in 2021, as COVID cases were climbing, Doer is the missing link between Frankfurt-based Man Rei's (aka Kristin Reiman) debut Cusp (2020) and their more recent recordings for Glasgow's Somewhere Press (2023). Still introspective and even cryptic at times, you can hear the transition to new song structures and the unique way in which Reiman has begun integrating their ongoing choral experiments. Doer shows Reiman as a master of irresolution, with a calm tension that fills every corner of their hazy sound world.
