Vies Sylvestres continues the direction of Roxane Métayer’s previous release on Kraak, which built imagined narratives set in forests or urban spaces inhabited by animal and plant characters. Here, those elements move to the foreground, with the album conceived and developed during travels and performances in Japan in 2023. Field recordings are no longer simple backdrops but become compositional material in their own right, complementing the instrumental pieces and extending the album’s narrative into lived sound and place.

Listeners encounter crickets, birds, and scenes from a Buddhist temple. Combined with violin, electronics, and voice, Métayer explores the relationship between natural environments and human culture, bridging these worlds through sound and revealing their deep interconnection.
