about the record

Out Under Streets marks a milestone in the prolific and largely intangible catalog of Bug Bus Piano. A decade into the cult project’s existence, this album is its first full-length LP. But Bug Bus Piano is perhaps better understood as a worldview: at any given moment, it manifests as a spirited performance of hyper-ambivalence, a refuge and processing center for personal history, populist strife, and fleeting achievements—a besieged utopian commune.

Out Under Streets is the latest expression of this philosophy and perhaps the most accessible entry point yet into all that is Bug Bus Piano. Far from didactic, the album’s “journey underground and back” provides a lens through which to consider what lies beneath our cracked sidewalks and the potholes of history: each collapse, each failed attempt at repair, and the persistent drive to piece things back together again.
