Claire Kelp’s second tape is a lo-fi exploration of a subaquatic world, inspired by deep dives into an imagined underwater seascape. The tape was composed using just two machines: a 1988 Japanese synthesizer and a small self-soldered device for recording her voice, embracing the creative possibilities of strict limitations.
This minimal approach extends to the album artwork, rendered with a single blue pencil, reflecting the tape’s stripped-down, focused aesthetic. Sonically, it draws on the nostalgic atmospherics of early-2000s electronics and drum & bass, infused with personal vaporwave and dub influences, and inspired in part by countless hours spent immersed in the video game Subnautica.
