Layers of drones and found sounds cradle melodies that rise like elusive revelations from the shadows.
Johannes Björk is a musician and literary critic based in Gothenburg. His music blends drones, pop melodies, and field recordings to create refined sketches rather than fully formed songs—more like slowly refurnished interiors than scenes with clearly discernible subjects.
Originally released as a limited mini-edition of 12 copies for a show in Stockholm, the album is now presented in an expanded LP form, featuring two additional tracks and two re-recordings. Accompanied in parts by renowned and emerging Swedish writers such as Siri Ahmed Backström, Johan Jönson, and Johanna Sköldbäck Martell, the music offers an electro-acoustic shelter housing both luminous and gloomy textures.
While the album shares some atmospheric qualities with the early years of the Gothenburg scene, its songwriting reveals a production that embraces lo-fi elements as integral parts of the soundscape—without letting them overpower the recording.
For his debut solo album, Johannes carves out a landscape where pulsating drones form the backdrop for perfect melodies, where field recordings and noise coexist with harmonic dyads, and the feeling of an assuasive epiphany flows out of an ever-looming tragedy.
