Norphonic is the debut full-length album by Mode Hexe, a project of Chicago-based drummer and electronic musician James Wetzel.
Wetzel’s work as a drummer has long been intertwined with Chicago’s experimental music scene, most notably through his involvement with the noise-rock group Melkbelly. Alongside this, he has maintained a parallel solo practice, creating skittering, rhythmically kinetic electronic pieces that are presented publicly for the first time.
The album is marked by a meticulous approach to sound design, juxtaposing frenetic yet intricately arranged percussive patterns and beats within an enveloping, often soft bed of sound.
