this is a home for sitting low
line out the door
a surgeon removes stiff upper lips
with the precision of a pigeon
tilt your back
pay respect
hand on heart
we were raised without table,
without manners,
where is it we gather this time?
In Of No Fixed Abode, Saint Abdullah and Eomac extend their exploration of genre dissolution to examine the tensions between culture, place, and migration. Their fourth collaborative LP reflects on the fluidity of cultural memory, acknowledging our inability to remain fixed in the past while carrying its spirit into an uncertain future.
Drawing on fifty years of Persian pop, they reinterpret the legacies of artists such as Andy, Hayedeh, and Fereydoun Farrokhzad, refracting these samples through gritty, contemporary beat work reminiscent of Rezzett and Madlib. Archival research and sampling become a means of dialogue between reverie and frenetic drum programming, expressing coexisting tendencies without homogenization. This approach goes beyond homage, exploring narratives of migrant experience in the UK and globally.
Sonically, Of No Fixed Abode merges the quick-fire intensity of the Roland SP404 with the precision of digital DAWs, featuring contributions from drummer Jason Nazary, sound artist Aria Rostami, New Zealand-based mHz, and London-based vocalist Raheel Khan.
