why we love this

A nostalgic release that begs to soundtrack a long, winding road trip through rural scenery (down I-75). Spacey, billowing synths paired with warm guitars and banjo create an equally otherworldly, yet familiar sound.

about the cassette

Renowned guitarists William Tyler & Luke Schneider present their four-song EP on Leaving Records, Understand. Inspired by Ted Chiang’s short story of the same name, Understand was recorded at a Nashville studio during the 2020 lockdown in a single-sitting. The instrumental endeavour reveals an evolution of the two composers experimenting through the lens of ambient and krautrock via instrumentation of electric & acoustic guitar, pedal steel guitar, banjo, bass, and synthesizer.
