about the cd
Laura Kampman, a photographer and composer, has transitioned from capturing moments through photographs to recording the sounds of her surroundings using her phone. For several years, she has documented conversations, melodies, objects, animals, and moments with loved ones, transforming these raw recordings into layered sonic landscapes.
The passing of her father suddenly changed the color of Lauraโs world. Experiencing grief for the first time deeply influenced her relationship with sound. During this challenging period, listening to songs often struck sensitive emotions, making it difficult to find solace in music. Yet Laura longed for the comfort of sound. Turning to her archive of phone recordings, she discovered these intimate, unintentional recordings offered her a safe space.
Laura began to explore the practice more intentionally, creating gentle, dreamlike, and playful soundscapes. Everyday sounds became a carefully composed reality in times of grief and sorrowโslower, softer, and filled with an ear for detail and tranquility.
This process led to her debut album, Coming into daily life, an ode to slowly re-entering the world after it has irrevocably changed its color.
