about the cassette

Woodland Drift is a meditation on movement—a sonic homage to the simple act of walking.

Each track is aptly named after the many ways one might move through nature, and explores a different path through woods, forests, jungles, and marshlands. Meandering rhythms dart and weave their way through dense synthetic environments: they are both the subject and the act, the noun and the verb alike.

This album invites the listener to revel in the present as the soundscape unfolds before them, and to delight in the discovery of nowhere.

All sounds were created using modular synths and various other hardware synthesizers:

Stroll – /strōl/
To walk in a leisurely, unhurried manner, often for enjoyment.

Meander – /mē-ˈan-dər/
To wander aimlessly or follow a winding, indirect course.

Scuttle – /ˈskʌt-l/
To move quickly with short, hurried steps, often implying a sense of urgency or nervousness.

Saunter – /ˈsôn-tər/
To walk in a slow, relaxed manner, without hurry or effort.

Lollop – /ˈlɑː-ləp/
To move in a clumsy, relaxed way, with large, uncoordinated steps.

Wade – /wād/
To walk through water or another substance that impedes movement, typically slowly and with effort.

Amble – /ˈam-bəl/
To walk at a slow, relaxed pace, similar to strolling, without a particular destination in mind.

Woodland Drift is Arthur Song’s first release under his own name. He is a modular synthesist and sound designer from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, now based in Liège, Belgium. After 15 years releasing under aliases such as FORM NULL, this project marks a shift, offering a gentle counterbalance to the darker, more somber explorations of his past work.
