With Reihen, Arovane opens a fragile new chapter in his long-running exploration of synthetic sound. Created in the spring of 2021 through a constrained setup of small devices and effects, the album is as a study of time without tempo: asynchronous loops, chance operations, and subtle inaccuracies shaping a drifting, unstable terrain. Microstructures emerge and dissolve—noises between tones, raw oscillators rushing, crackling, and falling into silence.

Reihen unearths a wistfulness and longing not often heard in Arovane’s more punctuated and rhythmic works. There is a dust and melancholy that moves away from his more precise, metallic textures of before. Reihen finds a comfortable home within 12k, reminiscent of the synthetic-tinged days of the label’s earlier years while creating a tactile, intimate world amid the machines.
